Our Foundation & Growth
Founded by Sensei R.J. Alexander with 60 students, introducing traditional Itosu-ryu Karate to Sri Lanka.
Recognized by Sri Lanka Karatedo Federation and Ministry of Sports.
Official recognition and transformation into Japan Karatedo Itosukai Sri Lanka.
Established direct affiliation with Itosukai Headquarters in Kanagawa, Japan under Soke Sadaaki Sakagami.

Training
Training Programs for All Ages
We offer comprehensive training programs suitable for children, teenagers, and adults. Our structured curriculum follows the traditional Itosu-ryu methodology, emphasizing kata (forms) as the foundation of karate training.
Students progress through colored belt ranks, with regular grading opportunities. Training includes fundamental techniques, kata, kumite (sparring), self-defense applications, and traditional etiquette.
Our experienced instructors create a supportive environment that balances discipline with encouragement, helping each student reach their full potential.

Certification
Grading & Black Belt Certifications
Students undergo regular belt grading examinations conducted by qualified instructors and senior examiners within our organization.
Black belt grading examinations are held annually in Sri Lanka under the supervision of authorized senior officials of Japan Karatedo Itosukai Sri Lanka.
All successful black belt candidates receive certificates issued directly from Japan, carrying official seals and international recognition.

Training in Japan
Senior students and black belts have the unique opportunity to train at the Itosukai Headquarters in Kanagawa, Japan, directly under Soke Sadaaki Sakagami and senior Japanese instructors.
These training visits provide invaluable experience, deepening technical knowledge and cultural understanding of traditional Japanese martial arts.
Our organization regularly organizes group trips to Japan for training camps, gasshuku (intensive training sessions), and participation in international tournaments.
Global Network
Continuing Training Abroad
Members of Itosukai Sri Lanka who relocate abroad can continue their training at any IKIF affiliated dojo worldwide. Our international network spans over 20 countries across Asia, Europe, North America, South America, and Africa.
Your rank and training record are recognized globally within the IKIF network, ensuring continuity in your martial arts journey wherever life takes you.
